Agenda

  1. Opening Prayer
  2. Purpose (from Matt 28:18-20)
  3. "Philosophy of ministry" for missions:
    1. Not just "administrative focus"
    2. Flows out of understanding of "the Church"
  4. Plan for the Mission's Team:
    1. Primary focus:  PRAYER for missions/missionaries, maintain "Great Commission focus," remain up-to-date w/ missionaries, manage resources (via recommendations to Session), communication with congregation
    2. Scope:  Local, domestic, and foreign missions (still in work - initial focus will be foreign)
    3. Near-term items:
      1. Mission's team to put together "weighted criteria" for selecting Missionaries
      2. Given 2017 Mission's budget, would like Mission's Team to develop recommendation for use of remaining $$'s
  5. Current Missionaries / Status:
    1. John & Elizabeth Sexton (International Medical Missionaries based in Asheville) - $2,400/yr
    2. Sandra Hart & Michelle Ferrer-De Leon (Philippines) - $2,400/yr
    3. John & Elizabeth Evans (West Africa - Theological school => moving to pastor in AZ) - $800/yr
    4. Khen & Rith Tombing (northeast India => little to no contact, discuss status) - $800/yr
    5. Ed & Nitya Travis (Wycliffe) => last year of support was 2016 - $800/yr
    6. Other missions support:  MTW, MNA, RUF, etc.
  6. Over the next month:
    1. Visit from David & Danielle Grotton scheduled for 28 May - share during a "Ministry Minute" during service and will meet with Missions Team over dinner - Saturday, May 27 at 6pm.  Question: Who cannot make it?
    2. Visit from John & Elizabeth Evans scheduled for 11 June - share during a "Ministry Minute" during service and either have a fellowship lunch after the service OR just a meeting with the Mission's Team
