Present: Keith & Ellie Hendricks, David & Lynne Williams, Dale Grubb, Rich Carver, David Hina

TOPICS:

  1. OUTREACH MINISTRY TEAM (OMT) MISSION: Garth briefly discussed the team's mission, as it has been a while since we’ve met. Discussed division of outreach responsibility in terms of both “direct outreach” (direct engagement with people, sharing the gospel), and “indirect outreach” (making the gospel accessible, improving our witness, etc.).

  2. DIRECT OUTREACH

    1. FIRES CREEK events - it would be valuable to continue with these, involving cookout, fellowship, singing, message, outreach to folks at Fires Creek. The team agreed on Sunday, May 16 for next Fires Creek outing.

    2. MERCY MINISTRY - P. David discussed plan to stand up Mercy Ministry Team within next few weeks. David & Steve Y. to talk to prospective team members. Will then involve initial meeting followed by training.

    3. PINWHEEL - if we do it, it will begin in the Fall; we must start planning for it in early summer. Need to make sure we are up to the commitment.

    4. CLASSES open to community (e.g. church history class) - briefly discussed potential for these. Would be of benefit to congregation as well as potential source of outreach, taught by Garth and/or David, and possibly others.

    5. OUTREACH to fathers of families - discussed different possibilities for reaching out to families in the community by especially focusing upon the men & fathers of families (e.g. group studies with particular focus)

  3. INDIRECT OUTREACH

    1. PRAYER involvement - discussed importance of OMT member involvement in ongoing prayer, especially at prayer meetings. Also discussed the need for members from the team to assist with leading prayer on Outreach topics at the meetings.

    2. VISITOR follow-up - OMT needs to make sure visitors are welcomed, informed, and cared for. The following items discussed:

      1. CARDS - cards containing info on Providence as well as (potentially) gospel content for visitor handout and for others in community. Lynne volunteered to assist with this. Pastor David & Lynne to meet later this month to discuss and begin the process.

      2. TIME UPDATED ON CHURCH SIGN - church sign at bottom of driveway still says “11:00 Worship.” Need to either fix the sign, or change our worship time back to 11am. Pastor David will take this question to the Session.

      3. SIGN ON HWY 64 - it is not clear on 64 where the turn is for the church, so it was suggested that a small sign be placed at the turnoff onto Harshaw Place. Rich will do some research and take this to the deacons.

      4. WEBSITE -

        1. there was agreement that the website is probably the number one place that people will go with questions about the church, when looking for a church, etc. The Providence website has not been updated in many years, and we need to think about revamping it.

        2. The team discussed getting the following people involved an effort to research, plan, and implement (P. David to contact individuals and set up a meeting within the next few weeks): David Hina (lead / content); David & Lynne Williams (research / content); Andy Burton (graphic design / pics); Andrew Carver (Web app / infrastructure).

        3. Also discussed the need to update the church Facebook site to provide weekly links to messages on Sermon Audio, and to add other content (e.g. 5-10 min on “What is the Gospel?”

      5. LIBRARY - a solid, accessible, “engaging” library can provide a wonderful avenue for outreach. Discussed the major updates that are being done. Ellie will bring a number of books on parenting that are available from the Pregnancy & Parenting center.
